BioDr. Benjamin Collins is 5'10", average build, light brown hair, blue eyes. He's 42 years old and a quiet man, who tends to fade into the background. He's competent, but
not showy about it.
Ben grew up in Nebraska, attended University of Nebraska and
played football there while earning an undergrad degree in engineering. He hurt his knee in his junior year and was unable to play again during his undergrad years, due to knee surgery. His masters was granted by USC Viterbi, in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
and his doctorate was granted by the same. It was his doctoral thesis on undiscovered theoretical elements that caught the eye of the SGC's talent scouts, who hired him away from NASA at the beginning of the Stargate Program.
He worked for several years, supporting the research of Dr. Lee and occasionally Major Carter. Ben knows the real relationship between Carter and McKay, having seen some of their exchanges firsthand, but he isn't likely to speak up and correct McKay's version. Everyone needs their little fantasies and illusions, after all.
He was married for seven years, but it ended when all efforts to conceive children failed. There have been no close relationships since. He buried himself in his work.
When he was asked to go along on the expedition, he wasn't necessarily eager to go, but found that he couldn't come up with a solid reason why he shouldn't. He is starting to wonder if he didn't make a mistake.
